Q: Is all of my registration information (especially my credit card number and password) secure?
A: Yes. We use SSL technology, which is short for Secure Sockets Layer, a protocol developed by Netscape, to transmit your information to the eMedicine server. SSL works by using a private key to encrypt data that are transferred over the SSL connection, creating a secure tunnel between your browser and the eMedicine servers. Both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer support SSL, and many Web sites use the protocol to protect users' confidential information, such as credit card numbers. By convention, Web pages that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http: and display a padlock in the lower right corner. Once your information arrives at eMedicine, we store it in an encrypted environment with limited access.
